From the mountains to the sea.
Our Abruzzo journey begins among high stone lanes. The mountains shape the days here: the work of wool, a distant fortress, saffron tended by hand and the pleasure of a meal made from what grows nearby.
We follow the makers. A lacemaker, a ceramicist and metal artisans invite us to see how a tradition lives in the hands of the person practicing it. In the vineyards, we settle into a second home and get to know the wines of this landscape.
Then the road meets the Adriatic. We gather for lunch on a trabocco and leave time for the shore. In a borgo connected to our family story, an olive grove offers a fitting place to spend our final evening together.

The shape of the journey
Eight nights in Abruzzo. Two places to call home. A path from mountain to sea.
- Day 01
The story begins
We meet in Rome and travel into Abruzzo together, with time to wander historic streets and pause beside a medieval fountain whose flowing waters tell the story of a city’s beginnings and linger over lunch. By afternoon we reach our mountain home and gather for a welcome dinner.
- Day 02
The mountain’s work
A wool maker introduces us to the pastoral life of the mountains. We leave room to explore stone lanes before an afternoon visit to a hilltop fortress. That evening, arrosticini and local wine bring the day back to the table.
- Day 03
Market and lace
The morning begins at the market, with time to browse. We learn about the craft behind confetti, Italy’s sugared almonds. Later, we spend time with a lacemaker before an unhurried aperitivo among old stone streets.
- Day 04
Saffron country
A scenic morning leads us to a saffron grower and the patient work behind this small, precious harvest. We linger over a country picnic, return to the mountains for a quiet afternoon, and make pasta alla chitarra together before dinner.
- Day 05
Clay and wine
As the journey continues, we meet a ceramicist and spend time with a village’s painted clay tradition. Our second home awaits in the countryside, where the evening opens with a dinner devoted to Abruzzo’s wines.
- Day 06
Hands and the country kitchen
We meet makers and notice the beauty of tools made to last. A long farmhouse lunch near a borgo connected to our family follows. The rest of the day belongs to the pool, a book or an evening entirely our own.
- Day 07
A table above the Adriatic
Along the Adriatic, we hear the story of a fishing family and the wooden platform reaching out over the water. Lunch is served above the sea; afterward, there is time for the beach, a walk or simply staying with the view.
- Day 08
What brings us back
We spend the day in a borgo held in our family’s story, then visit an olive grower to taste the local Intosso olive oil. We close the journey with an aperitivo and a farewell dinner among the groves.
- Day 09
Until we return
One last breakfast in the countryside before we travel back to Rome together. The mountains, the makers and the sea follow us home in the stories we carry.
An early glimpse of our planned 2028 Abruzzo journey. The order and individual experiences will be refined after our research trip, and any festival participation depends on the confirmed program.
